The Corporate Mitra course is a one-year government programme that trains young graduates as para-professionals who help MSMEs with accounting, GST, taxation and company compliance. It was announced in the Union Budget 2026-27 and is run under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). You spend six months learning online on SWAYAM Plus, then six months training in a CA, CS or CMA firm. The fee is ₹3,000 plus GST.

Because the name is new, it’s easy to confuse the official scheme with private courses that borrow the label. This guide sets out what the scheme is, according to its published guidelines, who can apply, how it’s assessed, and what the certificate does and doesn’t let you do.

What is the Corporate Mitra scheme?

Corporate Mitra is a Government of India scheme to build a cadre of trained, certified para-professionals who support micro, small and medium enterprises with compliance. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs owns it. ICAI, ICSI and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India set the assessments and provide on-the-job training through their members’ firms, and SWAYAM Plus handles registration and online teaching. The course lasts 12 months.

The first six are self-paced online modules in accounting, taxation, banking and financial management, legal and secretarial practice, and cost accounting. The next six are paid training in a CA, CS or CMA firm. Graduates of any stream up to 30 years old can apply, as can final-year students. The fee is ₹3,000 plus GST, with a 50% concession for women and some regions. Holders act as MSME compliance facilitators, not as CAs, CSs or CMAs.

Where the scheme comes from

In her Budget speech for 2026-27, the Finance Minister said the government would help ICAI, ICSI and ICMAI design short, modular courses to create “Corporate Mitras”. The aim is to help MSMEs, especially in Tier-II and Tier-III towns, meet compliance requirements at affordable cost (Budget Speech 2026-27, para 31).

The scheme guidelines list four objectives:

  • Build a skilled, accredited talent pool to support MSMEs in regulatory compliance, GST, accounting, financial guidance, cost accounting, secretarial services and corporate governance.
  • Make doing business easier for MSMEs through structured professional guidance.
  • Make graduates “industry-ready”, with placement opportunities in MSMEs.
  • Strengthen professional advisory services through standardised training and certification.

Corporate Mitras are expected to work mainly in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, where MSMEs have less access to professional help.

Who runs the scheme?

The course is a joint effort, and each body has a defined role:

Body Role
Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) Owns the scheme; constituted the Steering Committee that can modify guidelines, eligibility and selection
ICAI, ICSI and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICoAI) Academic support, assessments, and on-the-job training through their members’ firms
SWAYAM Plus (Ministry of Education, implemented through IIT Madras) Registration, online course delivery and certificate platform
IITM Pravartak Listed as the course offering partner on SWAYAM Plus

An MoU to operationalise the scheme was signed on 25 June 2026 between IIT Madras, IITM Pravartak, SWAYAM Plus, ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI. The Corporate Mitra logo was released the same day (scheme press release). A Coordination Committee of the three institutes, with its secretariat in Delhi NCR, handles day-to-day coordination.

Corporate Mitra course eligibility

Eligibility is deliberately broad, but the age cap is firm. Under the scheme guidelines:

Criterion Requirement
Nationality Indian national
Age Up to 30 years on the date of application (the SWAYAM Plus course page shows 20–30 years)
Education Graduate from any recognised university, or a final-year graduation student
Final-year students Receive the Corporate Mitra certificate only after completing graduation

Any stream qualifies; you don’t need a commerce degree. Still, the academic part is self-paced, so B.Com and BBA graduates may find the accounting and tax modules easier to follow alone.

Course structure, duration and fee

The course runs for 12 months in two equal halves.

  1. Academic course (6 months): 144 hours of online, self-paced structured learning plus 6 hours of webinars or physical sessions, about 150 hours in all. Modules are available in English and Hindi.
  2. On-the-job training (6 months): practical work in a professional firm or LLP whose partners are recognised as members in practice by ICAI, ICSI or ICoAI. You choose the firm from a list on SWAYAM Plus, based on city and qualifications. The firm pays a minimum stipend as per the institutes’ norms.

The academic content covers accounting, taxation, banking and financial management, legal and secretarial practice, and cost and management accounting (SWAYAM Plus course page).

One figure differs between sources: the SWAYAM Plus course page, checked on 27 September 2026, lists 300 hours of online self-paced learning, while the scheme guidelines describe about 150 hours. Go by the portal for your batch.

Corporate Mitra course syllabus: the five subject areas

The SWAYAM Plus page groups the academic part into five skill areas. A chapter-level syllabus is not published as text on the portal, so use these areas to plan your preparation and check the module list after you register.

Subject area What it prepares you for in MSME work
Accounting Keeping books, preparing financial statements and supporting year-end closing
Taxation GST registration and returns, and routine income tax and TDS compliance
Banking and financial management Working capital, bank loans and financial guidance for small businesses
Legal and secretarial practice Company and LLP filings, registers and routine corporate compliance
Cost and management accounting Costing, pricing and budgets for small manufacturers and service firms

Fee and concessions

  • Course fee: ₹3,000 plus applicable GST, paid online at registration. It includes your first attempt at the assessment and certification.
  • Re-appearance: ₹1,000 plus GST for each later attempt at the assessment.
  • 50% concession for women; candidates from the eight North Eastern states; candidates from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand; and candidates from Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

How candidates are assessed and certified

You earn the certificate only if you pass the academic assessments and complete the on-the-job training. The guidelines weight the evaluation as follows:

Component Weightage
Module-wise assessments 10%
Final assessment after the academic part 50%
On-the-job training, assessed by the professional firm 40%

The minimum pass mark is 50% overall. According to the SWAYAM Plus page, the assessments are centre-based multiple-choice tests conducted by ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI, and the certificate is issued through SWAYAM Plus at National Credit Framework (NCrF) level 5.5.

What the certificate lets you do

The guidelines say the certificate enables holders to “function as MSME compliance facilitators”. That means helping small businesses keep books, prepare GST and other filings, and stay on top of routine compliance. It isn’t membership of ICAI, ICSI or ICoAI. Work the law reserves for those members, such as statutory audit or signing certain certificates, still needs a qualified CA, CS or CMA. To see how the three professional titles compare, read how the CA, CMA and CS qualifications differ; the CMA route has its own guide, what the CMA course involves and how to register.

How to apply, and how to avoid fake listings

Registration happens only on the SWAYAM Plus portal. Information is also posted on the websites of MCA, ICAI, ICSI and ICMAI, which redirect you to SWAYAM Plus.

The first batch followed this timeline, per the SWAYAM Plus page and ICAI’s Corporate Mitra Committee page:

  • Registration opened on 15 July 2026 and closed on 14 August 2026.
  • The guidelines planned the first round for 2,000 candidates on a first-come, first-served basis, including 200 from the North East region.
  • SWAYAM Plus showed 2,892 learners enrolled as of September 2026, more than the planned 2,000.
  • The learning management system went live on 31 August 2026.

The next intake hadn’t been announced when this article was updated in September 2026. SWAYAM Plus itself warns applicants to register only through swayamplus.education.gov.in and to beware of phishing emails. If a private institute sells a “Corporate Mitra certificate”, ask where its assessment and certificate come from. The official certificate comes from the scheme’s own process, not from a coaching centre.

Is Corporate Mitra right for you?

It suits graduates under 30 who want structured, low-cost exposure to MSME compliance and a supervised six months in a professional firm. It’s less suitable if you’re over the age limit, or if you need a job-ready skill in weeks rather than a year. For a skill-first alternative, see our comparison of accounting courses by the job they lead to.

Option Duration Suits
Corporate Mitra 12 months (6 academic + 6 on-the-job) Graduates up to 30 who want MSME compliance exposure and firm training
Short skill courses (Tally, GST, Excel) 1 to 3 months Anyone who needs a specific office skill quickly
CA, CS or CMA Several years Those aiming for a professional qualification and reserved professional work

These options aren’t mutually exclusive. The academic part is self-paced, so some learners pair it with classroom practice in the software MSMEs actually use. IPA’s Tally course and GST course in Laxmi Nagar cover that hands-on side, though they’re separate from the government scheme. If you’re weighing longer professional routes, see our guides on becoming a CA and the CMA (ICWA) course.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Corporate Mitra course a government scheme?

Yes. It was announced in the Union Budget 2026-27 and is run under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, with academic support from ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI and delivery through the Ministry of Education’s SWAYAM Plus platform.

What is the Corporate Mitra course fee?

The fee is ₹3,000 plus GST, which covers the course, your first assessment attempt and certification. Each re-attempt costs ₹1,000 plus GST. Women and candidates from the North East, the Himalayan regions, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep get a 50% concession.

Can final-year students apply for Corporate Mitra?

Yes. Final-year graduation students can enrol, but they receive the Corporate Mitra certificate only after completing their degree.

Do Corporate Mitra trainees get a stipend?

During the six months of on-the-job training, the professional firm pays a minimum stipend as per ICAI, ICSI or ICoAI norms. The guidelines don’t fix a single rupee amount, so it depends on the institute and firm.

Can a Corporate Mitra do audits or act as a CA?

No. The certificate makes you an MSME compliance facilitator, not a member of any professional institute. Statutory audits and other work reserved by law for CAs, CSs or CMAs still need a qualified member.

When will the next Corporate Mitra batch open?

No date had been announced as of September 2026. Watch the SWAYAM Plus course page and the Corporate Mitra pages of ICAI, ICSI and ICMAI, since registration announcements are posted there.

What are the benefits of the Corporate Mitra course?

You get a government-backed certificate at a low fee: ₹3,000 plus GST, with concessions for some groups. You also get six months of paid on-the-job training in a CA, CS or CMA firm, and a defined role as an MSME compliance facilitator. It does not make you a CA, CS or CMA.

Is there official study material for Corporate Mitra?

Yes. The academic modules are delivered online on SWAYAM Plus in English and Hindi, and registered candidates study from that content. Be wary of paid “Corporate Mitra study material” sold outside the portal.
