Free Tally Course Online: What Is Free and What Is Not – IPA guide illustration

Yes, you can learn Tally online for free, but only the basics and usually without a recognised certificate. TallyPrime runs free in Educational mode, Tally publishes short video lessons and a free short course, and government portals list free skilling courses. An instructor-led course adds feedback, GST and TDS practice, and interview preparation.

This guide shows exactly what is free, what the limits are, and how a free route compares with a structured course. We checked every Tally and government page in October 2026, because these offers change.

Is there a free Tally course online?

Anyone searching for a Tally course online free usually wants practice, a certificate or a job. There are free ways to learn Tally, but not a full free course that ends in a certificate employers widely know. TallyPrime can be used without a licence in Educational mode, which has no time limit. In practice, you can enter vouchers dated only on the 1st, 2nd and 31st of a month.

Tally’s own Learning Hub offers short getting-started videos, and Tally Education lists free short courses. One of them, Smart Cash Management, is described as free, about 20 minutes long and without a certificate. For a government-backed route, the Skill India Digital Hub lists free skilling courses.

Free options are good for trying Tally. For job-ready skill with GST, TDS and reports, you will usually need regular practice with feedback.

What can you learn about Tally for free?

TallyPrime in Educational mode

This is the most useful free resource, because you practise on the real software. Tally’s free-software page says you can use it for as long as you like, free of charge, with a few restrictions such as fixed transaction dates. Install it from Tally’s official download page (our guide to the free TallyPrime download shows how and which date rule applies). Always use the official file. Cracked or “pre-activated” setups carry malware risk and break Tally’s licence terms.

Tally’s own video lessons

Tally’s Learning Hub has a getting-started set of seven short videos. They cover downloading and installing TallyPrime, creating a company, creating ledgers, stock groups and items, setting GST details, and recording purchases, sales, payments and receipts. They are a good first hour. They do not replace a course, because they show features rather than a full business case.

Free short courses on Tally Education

Tally Education is Tally’s learning arm, with self-paced online courses and classroom courses through learning centres. Its free courses are short. The Smart Cash Management page says the course is free and takes about 20 minutes, with no certificate. Check each free course’s page for its length and certificate rule before you start.

Help pages and practice guides

TallyHelp, Tally’s documentation site, explains each task step by step. Our own step-by-step guide to learning Tally at home turns those tasks into a practice routine, and the Tally course syllabus shows what a full course covers, so you can see what is still missing.

Is there a free government Tally course with a certificate?

The Skill India Digital Hub is the Government of India’s online skilling platform, and it lists courses from many providers. Some are free. Whether a Tally course is listed at any moment changes, and we have not verified one, so search the portal for “Tally” and read the course page.

When you find one, check three things before you invest time:

  • Who provides it. The course page should name the training provider.
  • What it costs. Some courses are free to learn, but charge for the exam or certificate.
  • What the certificate is. A government portal certificate is not the same as Tally Education’s own certificate, and employers may value them differently.

Be careful with websites that promise a “free government Tally certificate” from a domain that does not end in .gov.in or .nic.in. Treat them with caution, because they may collect fees or personal details. Do not pay anyone to “activate” a free scheme.

How does a free Tally route compare with a structured course?

Free self-study Free short course Paid online course from Tally Education Instructor-led course at an institute
Practice on real software Yes, in Educational mode Short demos Yes, with guided practice Yes, with an instructor checking your entries
Feedback on your mistakes No, you find errors yourself Not usually Course-dependent Yes
GST and TDS depth Only what you teach yourself A topic at most Some courses are focused on GST Usually a full module
Certificate None Not on the Smart Cash Management page Tally says it issues a verifiable digital certificate The institute’s certificate; check what it is worth
Interview and job support No No Tally mentions a job portal Depends on the institute

Tally’s own pages list the paid online courses and their current prices, so check there rather than relying on a number in an article.

How can you learn Tally free in four weeks?

If you want to start free, do it in a plan, not at random.

  1. Week 1: install TallyPrime in Educational mode, watch Tally’s seven getting-started videos, create a practice company.
  2. Week 2: create ledgers and groups, then record 30 to 40 purchase, sales, payment and receipt vouchers for one made-up business.
  3. Week 3: switch on GST, record taxable sales and purchases and read the GST reports.
  4. Week 4: read the balance sheet and profit and loss account, check them against your own working and back up the company.

Remember to date practice vouchers on the 1st, 2nd or 31st. At the end of four weeks, test yourself with our Tally Prime interview questions. If you keep making the same mistakes, that is the signal to add a teacher.

Is there a free accountant course, and what does a diploma add?

Yes, you can learn parts of accounting free, but a free accountant course rarely covers everything an accounts job asks for. Free resources give you the basics: ledger and voucher entry in TallyPrime Educational mode, Tally’s own video lessons and the free skilling courses listed on government portals. What they usually leave out is guided practice on a full set of books, GST and TDS entries, feedback on your mistakes and interview preparation.

A structured diploma adds those. If you want to work as an accountant, the ADFA diploma in financial accounting is the step after the free basics. You can compare syllabus and duration in the course brochures before you decide.

When is a paid Tally course worth it?

A paid course is worth considering when any of these is true:

  • You want to apply for accounts jobs and need GST, TDS, payroll and reports, not only vouchers.
  • You have tried self-study and keep getting stuck without anyone to ask.
  • You want a certificate you can show, from an institute that you can verify.
  • You want help with your resume and interviews.

Look at the syllabus, the practice hours, who teaches and what the certificate says before you pay. Our guide on which accounting course is best for a job has a checklist for judging any course.

How we teach this at IPA

IPA’s Tally course is a 1-month basic or 2-month advanced programme in TallyPrime. It covers accounting fundamentals, company creation, ledgers and vouchers, GST and TDS, inventory, payroll and financial reports. Classes are in the classroom at Laxmi Nagar or in live online batches, with weekend batches for working people. TallyPrime practice is guided by the instructor, and mistakes are corrected as they happen. IPA offers a free demo class for every course. The course carries placement support, which covers resume guidance, interview practice and employer referrals.

If you want accounting depth along with Tally, IPA’s longer diplomas add GST, income tax, payroll and Advanced Excel. The online accounting courses page explains how the live online batches work across India.

Frequently asked questions

Can I learn Tally online for free?

You can learn the basics for free with TallyPrime’s Educational mode, Tally’s video lessons and help pages. A full course with GST, TDS and a recognised certificate normally needs a paid programme.

Is there a free Tally course by the government with a certificate?

The Skill India Digital Hub lists free skilling courses, but a Tally course may or may not be listed. Check the course page for the provider, any exam fee and the certificate type, and do not pay agents.

Is TallyPrime free for students?

Yes, in Educational mode, with no time limit. The main restriction is on dates: vouchers can be entered only on the 1st, 2nd and 31st of a month.

Which is better, a free or a paid Tally course?

Free is fine for trying Tally and learning the screens. Paid, instructor-led training is better when you need GST and TDS practice, feedback on your errors and interview preparation.

Does a free Tally course give a certificate?

Not always. Tally’s Smart Cash Management free course says it gives no certificate. Read each course page before you start.

Can I try a Tally class before joining IPA?

Yes. IPA offers a free demo class for every course. You can ask for one when you request a call back.
