Creating Account Groups & Ledgers in Tally

Classification of Groups & Ledgers

Tally defines ledgers as accounting heads. Similar type of accounts (ledgers) can be combined under one head called “Group” A “Group” is collection of “Ledgers” A Group can be subdivided into Sub Groups also.

Tally ERP has Pre-defined Group

Tally provides a 28 pre-defined Groups

15 are Primary Groups (Main Groups) and 13 are Sub-Groups. in Tally

Out of 15 Main Group (9 for Balance sheet) and (6 for Profit & Loss) in Tally

Tally has two pre-defined ledgers for cash account and profit & Loss account

How to Create Groups in Tally

Tally gives you an option to create sub group and primary (main group) also.

Altering Groups

Groups can be altered by selecting Alter for single or multiple groups.

Deleting Groups

Groups can be deleted in alteration mode by pressing Alt + D

Group Alteration (Single mode) screen by pressing [Alt] + [D]. However, you cannot delete Tally pre-defined groups, or groups with sub-groups, or groups containing ledgers. The lowest level must be deleted first.
