How to Become a Certified Chartered Accountant (CA)

  2. A candidate who is graduate or post graduate in commerce with an aggregate of 55% by studying three papers Accounting, Auditing, and Mercantile Laws etc.
  3. Non Commerce Graduates need to have an aggregate of 60% or above.

Register with the Board of Studies

If the student is planning to pursue the Chartered Accountant (CA) course after 12th, he/she needs to register for the Foundation course with the institute.

The Foundation course is of four-month tenure.After qualifying the CPT exam they are eligible to register for the Intermediate course. If a candidate has completed graduation, they can directly register for the Intermediate exam, foundation course can be omitted.

Register for Intermediate course

The Intermediate Course consists of 8 months of thorough study and the student. Here, the institute provides the option to appear for only one group of subjects or both the group of subjects in the given month. A direct entry student is eligible for the Intermediate exam only after completing nine months of practical training.

The student is eligible to enroll in the Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS) once they register for this. This is a four-week course and compulsory to initiate article ship.

Here’s the catch, if a student has taken the foundation route, they need to pass at least one of the two groups of Intermediate exam before the practical training.

The Direct Entry students can begin with the practical training immediately after completing the Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS).

The student will then register for the three-year practical training and join a Chartered Accountant firm or also can work under the supervision of a Chartered Accountant who is authorized to provide training to the articles.

Register for the Final Exam

After successfully clearing both the groups of the Intermediate exam and completing 2.5 years of practical training, the student is eligible for the final exams.

The student also needs to complete Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (AICITSS) course of 4 months duration after completing one year of practical training and before appearing for the final exams. Once the student has completed 3 years of practical training and cleared both the groups of the final exams, they are granted the Chartered Accountant designation by the institute.

Chartered Accountant Course Syllabus, Subjects

CPT – The Entrance Exam
From, 2016 new syllabus CPT course will be called as Foundation course. Two subjects are added to previous course which are Business communication and General English.

        1. Paper 1 : Fundamentals OF Accounting
        2. Paper 2 : Quantitative aptitude
        3. Paper 3 A: Mercantile Law
        4. Paper 3 B: General Economics
        5. Paper 4 : General English
        6. Paper 4 B: Business Communication

IPCC – The second level
A person can take the IPCC Examination after passing CPT and nine months of study. IPCC has two groups of seven subjects. Group – I consists of four subjects and Group – II of three subjects.
Group I:

        1. Paper 1 : Accounting
        2. Paper 2 : Business Laws, Ethics and Communication
        3. Paper 3 : Cost Accounting and Financial Management
        4. Paper 4 : Taxation

Group II:

        1. Paper 5 : Advanced Accounting
        2. Paper 6 : Auditing and Assurance
        3. Paper 7 : Information Technology and Strategy Management

CA Course Final Examination

Any person who has passed both the groups of IPCC, during the last six months of articleship can take the Final Examination. This exam consists of two groups of four subjects each.

Group I:

        1. Paper 1 : Financial Reporting,
        2. Paper 2 : Strategic Financial Management
        3. Paper 3 : Advanced Auditing and Professional Ethics,
        4. Paper 4 : Corporate and Allied Laws,

Group II:

        1. Paper 5 : Advanced Management Accounting,
        2. Paper 6 : Information Systems Control and Audit,
        3. Paper 7 : Direct Tax Laws
        4. Paper 8 : Indirect Tax Laws.

ICAI conducts CPT exams in June and December, IPCC and Final examinations in May and November each year. Examinations are conducted in major cities in India and other countries such as Abu Dhabi(U.A.E.),Dubai(U.A.E.) and Kathmandu (Nepal).

Is Mathematics necessary in 12th Standard for Chartered Accountant Course?

It is not at all necessary to take Mathematics in class 12th for doing chartered accountancy course.
But yes if a student is good and should be in mathematics, it is always an upper hand to a level of up to 8/10th class.

To better understand the CA Course Fees, we can divide it into three parts. CA Foundation course fees, CA Intermediate fees, and CA Final Course Fees.

        1. Total Fees for CA Foundation is Rs 10900.
        2. Total fees for CA Intermediate single group is Rs 28200 (for Foundation route), Total fees for CA Inter both groups are Rs 33400(for foundation route), and total fees for direct entry route is Rs 33600.
        3. Total fees for CA Final is Rs39800 (for both groups).

For CA Course there will be no specific colleges as such like in engineering, MBA. It is a professional course under the institute namely Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).The course is like distance education. You will be writing only exams at each stage conducted by ICAI.

Of course, there are private coaching centers that imparts Knowledge to students through which students can crack CA. So, question of best colleges and ratings does not arise.
